Question: I don't understand my bill from pathology. Can I set up a payment plan for my bill? Do you accept a certain insurance plan?
Answer: We use Pathology Service Associates as our billing company. For these and other billing questions, please visit http://www.pathologybilling.com/. Their customer service center will be happy to answer your questions.
Question: I notice that additional studies were ordered on my biopsy. Why were these done?
Answer: Ancillary studies, such as immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry, have helped revolutionize the field of pathology. In many cases, these studies directly impact patient care. In all instances, these studies help us give the most accurate diagnoses possible. Whether requested by a treating physician or by a pathologist, please be assured that additional studies are performed only when necessary.
Question: I don't understand my diagnosis.
Answer: Your treating physician is the best person to interpret a pathologic diagnosis and treat you accordingly. If your physician has a question about a diagnosis, we are always available for consultation.
If you have general questions about your diagnosis, www.mybiopsy.org provides concise and reliable information on many diseases.
Question: Are second opinions available?
Answer: We strive to provide the most accurate diagnoses possible on all specimens. Every new cancer diagnosis is reviewed by at least 2 pathologists. Our diverse specialty training allows us to provide diagnoses on all but the most complex and difficult cases. For these cases, we can ask the opinion of many consulting pathologists. If we feel this is needed, we will send the specimen without delay.
Second opinions can be solicited by treating physicians and patients. Please be aware, however, that consulting pathologists will bill for their services. |
