Question: What kinds of specimens can be placed in formalin?
Answer: In general, most routine biopsies can be placed in formalin. This includes those that may need ancillary studies, such as immunohistochemical stains or certain PCR tests. However, if lymphoma is a clinical consideration, it is essential that at least some material is not fixed in formalin. If the specimen will reach our lab quickly, then we can process it without special transportation medium. If there will be a significant delay (i.e. >4 hours) before we receive it, the specimen should be placed in RPMI. Please call us at 382-7696 if you have questions regarding specimen transportation.
Question: How can I order supplies?

Question: How do I schedule a courier pickup?
Answer: Please call 388-7717.
Question: What is the normal turnaround time for a final diagnosis?
Answer: Cytology specimens: Most negative Pap smears will be signed out within 24 hours. Those that need a pathologist's review will be delayed, but usually are signed out within 48 hours.
Anatomic pathology specimens: For all rush specimens and radiologic-guided biopsies, we strive to have at least a preliminary diagnosis within 24 hours. For most routine biopsies and smaller specimens, we are able to provide a diagnosis within 48 hours on the vast majority of specimens. Please note that some specimens require ancillary testing such as immunohistochemical or other stains, which will delay a final diagnosis. If you have any concerns about a particular specimen, please do not hesitate to call us at 382-7696.
Question: What are your areas of expertise?
Answer: Please see our bios here. In summary, all of our pathologists are board certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology. Many of us have additional training and certification in areas such as cytology, hematology, breast, gastrointestinal, liver, and genitourinary pathology.
